Description of Work

The Portal North Bridge Project is a 2.5 mile trackwork project with the intent of updating the existing river crossing over the Hackensack River by installing a new 1,200 LF cable tied-arch bridge and removing the existing truss swing structure. There will be nearly 5,000 LF of new steel with cast-in-place decking structures surrounding the new bridge as well as a new 400' concrete duckunder structure that will allow for a future track line to cross under the proposed tracks installed in this contract. Proposed work will also include installation of a 238 LF bridge over the Newark-Jersey City Turnpike, installation of 5 retaining walls totaling 4,700 LF, modifications to expand the existing viaduct, communication, installation of a working platform for the new bridge, communication/signal work, traction power, catenary system install, 138kV line work, and control center work.
