Columbus Section 3 program

Businesses may be registered as a Section 3 Business for the purpose of doing business with the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority. The purpose of Section 3 of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Act of 1968 is to ensure that employment and other economic opportunities generated by certain HUD financial assistance shall, to the greatest extent feasible, and consistent with existing Federal, State and local laws and regulations, be directed to low- and very low-income persons, particularly those who are recipients of government assistance for housing, and to business concerns that provide economic opportunities to low and very low-income persons. Being registered as compliant with Section 3 is a way of ensuring that a good faith effort has been made to include such businesses and persons.

Does this program require bidders attempt to make a good-faith effort to meet participation goals? All HUD fund recipients are required to document efforts to comply with Section 3 requirements in the bidding process.
