State

South Carolina MWBE program

The South Carolina Division of Small and Minority Business Contracting and Certification (SMBCC) is charged with helping minority- and women-owned small businesses take part in state contracting and procurement.

One of the Division's primary responsibilities is certifying companies as minority business enterprises (MBEs). Unlike in other state's, South Carolina expands the term “minority” to include businesses owned by women. Helpfully, the Division automatically recognizes firms already certified by the South Carolina Department of Transportation as a disadvantaged business enterprise.

Once recognized as a South Carolina-certified MBE, a business is added to the state's MBE directory, which is used by prime contractors and state purchasing representatives to identify vendors and suppliers.

Is any loan or bonding assistance provided through this program? No.

How do I get re-certified? A re-certification form is provided by SMBCC on its website.
