Durham to hold meeting on proposed small business program

The City of Durham may establish a race- and gender-neutral Small Local Business Enterprise Program following a town hall meeting on November 14th and final review by the City Council.

The city received legislative authorization to create the program, which aims to support small businesses that that specialize in construction, architectural, engineering, and surveying services, for the Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area in 2011. The city also anticipates that the program will increase the tax base and increase employment opportunities.

The town hall meeting will be held at in the City Council Chambers inside City Hall, 101 City Hall Plaza. The meeting will address eligibility requirements for the program, the certification process, how the program will work, and the timeline for the program implementation. There will also be a question and answer session.
