Alameda County offers bonding assistance to small, local contractors
Published on 06/05/2014

Small contractors unable to obtain bid, payment, and performance bonds required for Alameda County contracts can benefit from the County's Contractor Bonding Assistance Program.

Administered by Merriwether & Williams Insurance Services, contractors will receive one-on-one support from a team of professionals that help prepare them for the bonding process. Through the program, contractors can receive guarantees up to 40% of the bond amount or $750,000, whichever is less.

Participation is restricted to contractors that are located within the county and meet the requirements of the County's Small Local Emerging Business (SLEB), California's Small Business Enterprise (SBE), and/or the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program.

Enrollment in the program is free, as is the assistance, workshops, and seminars provided to participants. Contractors are responsible, however, for the payment of bond premiums.
