SBA achieves small business contracting goal
Published on 09/15/2014

On August 1st, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced that it has met its small business contracting goal of 23.39 percent for the first time in eight years. The SBA also reported that performance in four out of five of the small business prime contracting categories showed marked improvement.

While federal spending fallen, small businesses have secured a larger share of available dollars than in previous assessments. The SBA credits this to their efforts to work with federal agencies to create and expand opportunities for small businesses on federal contracts.

In addition to achieving the small business goal, the SBA released the Fiscal Year 2013 Small Business Procurement Scorecard, which rates each federal agency on its use of small business contractors. The federal government received an "A" this year. Scores for individual agencies are available at http://go.usa.gov/Nxxd .
