Denver embarks on MWBE disparity study

The City of Denver announced last week that it will be conducting a study examining whether a fair share of the city's contracts are being awarding to minority- and women-owned businesses (MWBEs).

"With significant public investment projects on the horizon, and by staying true to our Denver values, this city will show how economic prosperity can bring everyone along. We're looking forward to taking a thorough, objective look at our inclusivity programs in order to bolster our approach and further level the playing field for Denver's minority contracting community," Mayor Michael B. Hancock said.

As part of the study, the city is inviting public feedback on their experiences as MWBEs and in public contracting. Comments can be submitted to denverdisparitystudy@bbcresearch.com or at one of the four public hearings scheduled in October.

Last year, the city awarded more than $86 million to firms certified as socially and economically disadvantaged businesses - a category that includes MWBEs.
