Proposal expanding Monroe County MWBE program to include veteran businesses introduced
Published on 09/28/2017

Monroe County legislators have introduced a plan to modify the county's existing minority- and women-owned business enterprise (M/WBE) policy to include veteran-owned businesses (VOBs) and service disabled-owned businesses (SDVOBs).

"Monroe Country residents are indebted to our Vets for their services, and we in county government are obligated to create an environment that encourages them to seek business opportunities," states the resolution that was submitted to the County Legislature's Ways and Means committee.

If approved, the county would set a goal to award three percent of its contracts to VOBs and SDVOBs each year.

New York State has a veteran business inclusion program for state-funded contracts, but the county's program would apply exclusively to contracts funded by Monroe County.

At present, Monroe County has an estimated 300 SDVOBs and 39 registered VOBs.
