New online portal makes Kentucky DBE certification easier
Published on 02/14/2018

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has recently unveiled a new portal, DBE Online, where companies looking to become certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) or as an Airport Concession DBE in the Commonwealth of Kentucky can apply online.

The new portal was developed by the state's Office for Civil Rights and Small Business Development.

Through DBE Online, prospective DBEs can apply for certification entirely online, with no need for printing and postage. The system also automatic checks throughout the process whether required documents have not yet been provided. Additionally, the portal allows for the owner of multiple businesses to use their single "Kentucky Business One Stop" user account to manage the certifications of all their businesses.

The functionality of the portal is expected to expand to include submission of affidavits of change online and better document retrieval processes. The Cabinet did not incur any external costs in constructing the portal due to collaboration in development with the Indiana Department of Transportation, which already uses substantially similar tools and processes.
