Persons with disabilities eligible for Tennessee's GoDBE certification
Published on 03/30/2018

The Governor's Office of Diversity Business Enterprise (or GoDBE) for the State of Tennessee recently added "person with disabilities" to the eligibility list for being covered by the services offered by GoDBE.

The benefits GoDBE offers to businesses certified under its program includes but is not limited to technical assistance, aid in understanding and completing bureaucratic processes relating to state procurement, and being part of the pool of businesses that GoDBE reaches toward when assisting other state agencies in reaching internal procurement goals for diverse businesses.

As with other categories of certification, eligible businesses must be at least 51 percent owned and controlled by a person or persons meeting the relevant criteria. The criteria for establishing someone as a person with disabilities specify that one must either: have been diagnosed as having a physical or mental disability resulting in marked and severe functional limitations that is expected to last no less than twelve months; be eligible to receive social security disability insurance (SSDI); or be eligible to receive supplemental security income (SSI) and having a disability meeting the twelve-month criteria stated earlier.

Businesses can learn more and begin the certification process by visiting GoDBE's website at www.tn.gov/generalservices/procurement/central-procurement-office--cpo-/governor-s-office-of-diversity-business-enterprise--godbe--/registration-for-certification.html.
