The Board of Trustees for Hempstead Village in Long Island, New York has, on May 31st, 2018, voted unanimously to adopt a Minority and Women Business (MWBE) policy in contracting for the municipality.
Now, under the new law, the village is required to "take affirmative steps, where possible" to ensure that MWBEs have "full participation" in the procurement process.
Under the language in the agenda for the Board's May 31st meeting, the Village also reiterates a committment to being "an equal opportunity organization" and to holding general policy against discrimination on the basis of "race, color, religion, national origin, creed, marital status, ancestry, sex, age, disability, or sexual preference."
