Palm Beach County weighs MBE, WBE disparity study

Palm Beach County Commissioners are considering hiring an independent firm to assess whether minority- (MBE) and wome-owned businesses (WBEs) are receiving an equitable share of county contracts.

If approved, the study will focus on whether there is obvious disparity in the use of MBEs and WBEs in construction, professional services and goods with the county from 2009-2013.

The last study examining disparity between the use of MBEs and WBEs with all others was conducted over 25 years ago and MBEs and WBEs within the county have complained that more action is needed to ensure equal access to county contracts. In response to these concerns, the County Commissioners began the process of locating a firm to conduct a new study to examine County usage of MBE and WBE firms.
