New Jersey Assembly Democrats Bob Andrzejczak and Vince Mazzeo are hoping to advance legislation that will create a state contract set-aside program for New Jersey businesses owned and operated by disabled veterans.
Under the bill's provisions, the state contract set-aside program would mandate that contracting agencies set aside at least 3 percent of their contracts for disabled veteran-owned business enterprises (DVBEs). California currently adminsiters are similar program for state-funded contracts.
If approved, a DVBE would be defined as a company which has its principal place of business in New Jersey, is independently owned and operated, and at least 51 percent of which is owned and controlled by persons who are disabled veterans.
In addition to California, six other states have adopted similar legislation which supports DVBEs: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Maryland and New York.
