NY bill easing MBE certification for veterans awaits governor's signature
Published on 08/01/2018

New York State Senator Betty Little recently introduced a bill, SB 7891, that would authorize the State of New York's Division of Minority and Women's Business Development to accept DD Form 214 issued by the United States Department of Defense as proof of race or ethnicity (as well as proof of date of birth, place of birth, and verification of address) for the purpose of certifying the applicant's business as a minority-owned business.

DD Form 214 is issued upon retirement, separation, or discharge from active duty in the armed forces of the United States. The bill has passed the senate but it has not yet been passed to the governor, which would be the next step along the way towards eventual passage into law.
