Charleston International Airport reports 2019 MWBE participation
Published on 04/17/2020

Charleston International Airport spent $7,784,882 - out of a total $77,375,260 for all procurement - on procurement of goods and services from minority- and woman-owned businesses (MWBEs) in 2019, according to a report recently released by the airport.

The report follows the adoption, in May 2019, of an MWBE program launched in order to promote MWBE participation in airport procurement. The program provides business development, training, and technical assistance to qualified firms, as well as monitoring compliance. The program additionally performs its own certifications and maintains a directory of certified firms.

David Morrow, director of procurement for the airport, said that Charleston Airport did not include good-faith efforts in the utilization figures, saying that every dollar counted was a dollar actually spent with MWBE businesses.
