Last week Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh signed an Executive Order creating a program aimed at increasing veteran-owned small business (VOSB) participation on city contracts.
Under the Veteran-Owned Small Business Development Initiative, city departments will be required to solicit at least one quote from VOSBs for goods and services, public building projects, and building construction contracts. The city's Small and Local Business Enterprise (SLBE) Office is tasked identifying VOSBs that are registered through www.vetbiz.gov and will provided information and education to these firms about the city's contracting opportunities, needs, and policies.
"I am proud to sign this executive order which gives us the opportunity to promote self-reliance, strengthen veteran owned businesses, and help those who have valiantly served this country, never asking for anything in return," said Mayor Walsh.
