Port Houston announces MWBE Business Equity Program and Initiative

Port Houston has announced its new MWBE Business Equity Program and Initiative. The initiative creates a new Business Equity Division which will report directly to Executive Director Roger Guenther.

The Business Equity Division will provide a single big tent under which the Port's Small Business Program as well as MWBE initiatives and other Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts such as outreach, tracking, and educations can be gathered. The formation of the Division comes along with the new MWBE Development Policy adopted in April of 2021, which calls for a 30 percent participation goal for MWBEs, as well as new plans for outreach to MWBEs about opportunities with the Port.

The Port accepts MWBE certifications through partner entities (such as TxDOT, the SBA, the City of Houston, and others), but lists those enrolled in the Business Equity Program in its own directory and makes them eligible for Port-specific business development opportunities and events.
