Last week, the City of Philadelphia released findings that minority, women and disabled-owned business enterprise (M/W/DSBE) participation on city contracts increased in 2014 compared to the previous year.
According to the city's Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) Fiscal Year 2014 Annual Participation Report, 29.4 percent - a total of $266.5 million - of its contracting dollars went to M/W/DSBEs. In Fiscal Year 2013, only $243 million was awarded to these firms.
Additionally, Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced that the city is increasing its annual D/W/DSBE participation goal from 25 percent to 30 percent.
"Expanding economic opportunity and creating more business opportunities for minority, women, and disabled owned firms has been a priority for my Administration since day one and this report details our success in this area," said the mayor. "As a result of our successful track record, and my confidence in the Office of Economic Opportunity, we have now raised our goal to 30 percent as of Fiscal Year 2015 and we have outlined an aggressive plan to ensure that we achieve it."
