Gadsden adopts MBE, WBE inclusion program

The Gadsen City Council has approved a new program that will track the city's efforts to include minority- and women-owned businesses (MWBEs) in its procurement process.

Through the MWBE program, the city will add MWBE firms to its bid list and require that the mayor report to the council on the city's progress toward MWBE inclusion. Prior to the establishment of the program, Gadsen officials were unable to determine which businesses were minority or women-owned because it did not ask for that information.

Unlike other MWBE programs around the country, Gadsen's will not use set-asides on individual contracts.
