Service-Disabled Veteran Opportunities in Small Business Act reintroduced
Published on 08/06/2025

The Service-Disabled Veteran Opportunities in Small Business Act, an act intended to support small businesses owned by service-disabled veterans (or SDVOSBs), has been reintroduced in the Senate by Senators John Kennedy and Jon Ossoff, as well as in the House by Representatives Nick LaLota and Morgan McGarvey. The bill was previously proposed as as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The proposed bill would amend the Small Business Act, and assist SDVOSBs by requiring the Small Business Administration (SBA), with the Office of Veterans Business Development, to provide training to employees at all federal agencies that have not met the government-wide SDVOSB contracting goal of 5 percent annually on methods of increasing their SDVOSB participation figure. The bill would also require the SBA to develop and publish best practices for increasing SDVOSB participation, and to issue a report on trainings provided under the scope of the bill.

"Our bill would [make] sure government agencies are giving [service-disabled veteran-owned] small businesses a fair shake," said Senator Kennedy, in a statement.
