New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu's administration is making changes to the way the city implements its disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) program.
Last week, the mayor announced that the city is taking steps to strengthen its DBE program enforcement measures. For example, businesses that fail to comply with the program rules risk termination of their contracts with the city and even suspension from taking part on future contracts.
Additionally, the city will evaluate contractors efforts to comply with good faith effort rules throughout the duration of a contract.
Moreover, the city has a new system in place to track contracts and payments to DBEs, which will help the city identify contractors that attempt to skirt the rules.
