Caltrans exceeds small, disabled veteran business goals

Each year, California's various departments and agencies are required to make an effort to meet statewide small business (SB) and disabled veteran business enterprise (DVBE) contracting goals. According to figures submitted to the Department of General Services, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) exceeded the goals set for both types of companies in Fiscal Year 2014/2015.

Last year, Caltrans awarded 28.4 percent of its procurements and contracts to SBs, besting the state-mandated goal of 25 percent for the second straight year.

For DVBEs, the state has established a contract award goal of three percent, and the department acheived 3.83 percent. This is the fifth time in the past six years that Caltrans has exceeded the state's goal.
