On January 1st, the City of Cincinnati rolled out its Minority and Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) Program, which aims to award a sizable amount of city contracts to MWBEs.
Each year the city will aim to award 17 percent of construction contracts to black-owned companies, 10 percent of construction contracts to woman-owned companies, 14 percent of professional services contracts to black-owned companies, 16 percent of professional services contracts to woman-owned companies on contracts valued at and over 50,000.
Cincinnati will use MWBE subcontracting goals on individual in an effort to meet these annual percentages, but only once the city determines that an acceptable number of MBEs and WBEs are certified. Once subcontracting goals are instituted, prime contractors will be required to perform a good faith effort meet their contract\\\'s specific MWBE hiring goals.
