Boston rolls out new MBE, WBE program
Published on 03/07/2016

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh signed into effect an Executive Order that will, in part, lay the groundwork for a study to examine the participation level of minority- and women-owned businesses (MBEs/WBEs) in city contracting at the end of February.

According to the order, the City will attempt to spend 15 to 20 percent of architectural and engineering subcontracts with both MBEs and WBEs. Additionally, it will try to award 10 to 15 percent of construction contracts under $500,000 to MBEs and 25 to 30 percent of professional services contracts under $500,000 to WBEs.

Also, to help the City of Boston develop a targeted and effective MBE/WBE program, it is expected to launch a study to examine bias in city contracting toward the end of 2016.
