A study released by the Indiana Department of Administration this month found that minority- and women-owned businesses (MBE/WBEs) are not getting their fair share of the state's public works dollars.
According to the report, substantial disparities exist between the utilization of MBEs and WBEs and their availability to work on public works jobs funded by the state. However, on other types of contracts, such as professional services and goods and supplies, there is more parity between MBE/WBE firms and white male-owned businesses.
The Governor's Commission on Minority & Women's Business Enterprises is reviewing the study's findings and will use them to set MBE and WBE contracting goals.
