Minority- and women-owned business enterprises (M/WBE) are doing more business with Cook County, according to a recently published study.
In 2015, Cook County awarded 29 percent of its contract awards - four percent increase from the previous year, to M/WBEs. In real terms, M/WBEs were awarded a total of $86 million in contracts.
"Minority- and women-owned businesses have historically been overlooked and underrepresented when it comes to government contracts being awarded," County President Toni Preckwinkle said. "I am proud of our efforts to lower the barriers for minority- and women-owned businesses. We have made great progress but must continue striving to make Cook County a better business partner for all."
