Minority and women-owned businesses (MWBEs) are doing more business with the City of Kansas City, according to a new study.
The Minority/Women Business Enterprise Annual Report for 2015-16 revealed that approximately 34 percent of the city's spending during the study period went to MWBEs. This is five percent higher than 2014-2015 and a 10 percent jump from 2013-2014.
Companies owned by minorities and women are not the only businesses to win more Kansas City contracts. According to the findings, the city also exceeded it's goal of for Section 3 Business participation, beating it's 10 contracting percent of 10 percent by six points.
