LA DPW forms disadvantaged business committee
Published on 11/03/2016

Commissioners with the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works (DPW) have recently formed an Ad Hoc Business Advisory Committee with the goal of increasing the number of disadvantaged businesses that are awarded city contracts.

Members of the committee will include contractors and sub-contractors who have worked with the city before, as well as commissioners for the city and the president pro tem of the city’s Board of Public Works.

Commissioner Heather Repenning also reported that the Board awarded 800 contracts worth $600 million altogether over the last two years to disadvantaged businesses (including small, local, minority-owned, and women-owned businesses).

The newly formed Ad Hoc Business Advisory Committee will hold four public hearings to work towards the goal of increasing those numbers going forward. The dates of the hearings have yet to be announced.
