The State of California spent $349 million - or 4.3 percent of all state contracting dollars - with disabled veteran businesses (DVBEs) last year, according to the Consolidated Annual Report recently published by the Department of General Services.
The state has an annual 3 percent DVBE spending goal, and last year is the seventh year in a row the state exceeded its goal.
Certified small businesses (SB), on the other hand, achieved a participation rate of 30.4 percent, equaling $2.5 billion worth of state contracts. California's annual SB spending goal is 25 percent.
For both DVBEs and SBs, non-IT services and non-IT goods contracts were the most lucrative, followed closely by construction contracts and IT goods & services.
