The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) recently announced a surety bond training program for minority- and/or women-owned business enterprise (M/WBE) firms, with the goal of helping M/WBEs expand their capacity and develop their ability to bid as prime contractors in addition to bidding as subcontractors.
The program will provide 23 classes in which surety bond providers offer education to M/WBEs on how to maximize efficiency in their businesses and ensure the completion of projects on time and within budget. This demonstrated ability is a large part of what allows M/WBEs to expand their access to both performance bonds and payment bonds, the bonds that protect against a given contractor not meeting obligations and against a given contractor failing to pay suppliers and subcontractors, respectively.
Applications can be submitted on the DASNY.org website. The classes will be held at DASNY’s corporate office at One Penn Plaza in New York City, and will additionally be streamed live to those in New York State who wish to participate.
Each M/WBE enrolled in the program will also be eligible to receive 10 hours of one-on-one management consulting sessions with The Cayemitte Group.
Outreach sessions related to the program are being held at DASNY’s New York City office at One Penn Plaza, on the 52nd floor, on Tuesday, February 7 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.
