Hudson County establishes minority, women, and veteran business program

The Board of Freeholders for Hudson County has approved a set-aside program - the first of its kind in New Jersey - under which 10 percent (by dollar value) of county contracts will be awarded to businesses owned by minorities, women, and veterans.

The contract opportunities in the set-aside program are composed of opportunities listed at $40,000 or less and in total represent approximately $3.4 million worth of contracts. The program went into effect on January 1st of 2017.

To be eligible for the set-aside program, business must hold a valid and current certification as a Minority-owned Business Enterprise (MBE), Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE), Veteran-owned Small Business Enterprise (VBE), or Small Business Enterprise (SBE), as granted by the State of New Jersey Department of Treasury, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, NJ Transit, The United States Small Business Administration, or the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Eligible businesses must also, in addition, meet specific eligibility requirements largely representative of the requirements for the aforesaid certifications, and must register on the Hudson County Purchasing Portal at www.hudsoncountynjprocure.org.
