California Assemblyman Dante Acosta is sponsoring a new bill that would raise the cap on streamlined bidding contracts that help disabled veteran businesses (DVBEs) do business with the state.
Currently, state agencies and departments can bypass the usual bidding process if contracts are below $250,000 and the state entity accepts prices from at least two small businesses or DVBEs. Assemblyman Acosta's bill would raise the limit to $500,000.
According to state procurement figures, over 160,000 state contracts were valued between $1 and $499,999 in Fiscal Year 2015-2016. However, less than half a percent were valued between $250,000 and $499,000.
