Washington hosting meetings for new MBE, WBE, VBE disparity study
Published on 05/15/2017

Washington State will soon begin studying whether minority-, women-, and veteran-owned businesses are being discriminated against when it comes to the awarding of state contracts.

As part of the state's disparity study, two public meetings will be held to provide information about the disparity study. The first will be in Seattle on June 7th, and the other in Spokane on June 8th. The meetings will give the public a chance to meet the disparity study team as well as learn about the process for the study.

The study itself will look at the breadth of public works contracting and purchasing across the State of Washington, including scrutiny for 33 agencies that account for 85 percent of state contract spending. Using statistical and other methods will enable the disparity study team to examine and account for the capacity of the various disadvantaged businesses under the study’s rubric versus the state’s usage of those businesses.

The study will not duplicate a separate disparity study, now underway, being conducted by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), although it will take into account the prior findings of an advisory group that met in 2016.
