New website helps Mississippi firms become minority, small business certified
Published on 05/22/2017

Mississippi's minority-owned business and small businesses will find it easier to get information on certification with the state, following the launch of a new website by the Mississippi Development Authority's (MDA) Minority and Small Business Development Division.

On the website, companies can determine whether they are eligible for certification with the MDA's Minority Business Certification Program, find instructions on how to get starting with minority certification, and download application materials.

Once certified, businesses can receive assistance with marketing and identifying procurement opportunities, and are also entitled to be listed in the Minority Business Directory. Government procurement officials and contractors that do business with the state use the directory to identify potential business partners for state-funded contracts.

The eligibility guidelines are described on the application, and include (but are not limited to) certain strictures on the owners maintaining residence within the state of Mississippi and specifications describing the maximum net worth of those owners and their overall share of ownership of the relevant business. Applicants are also subject to potential on-site reviews at the discretion of the MDA.
