GDOT releases, seeks comment on 2012 DBE disparity study
Published on 05/02/2012
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has released a preliminary copy of its 2012 Disparity Study, which evaluates the effectiveness of the agency's disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) program.

The department's last disparity study was completed in 2005.

The study found that when GDOT does not establish DBE or minority- and women-owned business enterprise (M/WBE) goals on its contracts, these businesses only obtain a small percentage of the department's contracts. From 2009 to June 2011, DBEs received 3.6% of GDOT contract dollars while M/WBEs received 5.5% of GDOT contract dollars.

Despite the low figures regarding DBE and M/WBE participation on GDOT contracts, the department is considering establishing a 15% overall DBE participation goal for the next three years.
