Schwarzenegger's 37.5 Billion Dollar Infrastructure Bond Measure Approved by State Senate
Published on 11/30/-0001
State legislatures gave the green light to the largest public works program in California's history. Working late into the night, they finally came to an agreement early Friday morning (May 5th). The measure includes 19.9 billion for fixing the state's transportation infrastructure and reducing congestion. Another 4.1 billion dollars goes to repair the state's aging dykes system. And 10.4 billion is earmarked for the repair and upgrading of public schools, colleges and public universities.

The approval of the package comes after the defeat earlier this year on a 222 billion dollar plan to rebuild the state that the Governor proposed back in January. This will be an important election year boost for the embattled movie star turned governor who has had many setbacks during his term.

During a press conference, Arnold proclaimed, "For the first time in a generation, we are making a real investment in our state's future. The Strategic Growth Plan is a landmark accomplishment that will yield benefits for generations to come."

If approved by voters, it will be the largest investment in California's infrastructure in 40 years. The plan will be listed as a bond measure in the November's election.
