Mass. launches new training program for small, minority, women contractors

On July 10, Massachusetts Secretary of Administration and Finance Jay Gonzalez launched a new training and development program, named Capacity for Contracts, which aims to improve the competitiveness of small, minority, and women-owned construction companies.
"This new program is another example of the Patrick-Murray Administration's commitment to helping local businesses succeed by providing them with the skills and resources they need to grow," said Secretary Gonzalez. "Small businesses represent 85% of all Massachusetts companies and employ over 25% of our workforce. Their success and growth means more jobs, more regional growth and stronger communities."
The program, which is managed by the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation and executed by Roxbury-based Next Street, offers a curriculum that helps participants improve their competitiveness in the public and private construction sectors by addressing topics such as financial management, access to capital, hiring, bonding, and networking.
Capacity for Contracts also provides mentoring and evaluation to ensure that the small, minority, and women businesses taking part retain their newly-acquired skills.
Capacity & Contracts will kick-off its first five-day training program in July 2012. For additional information on the Program, please contact Michelle Macaux at Next Street at
