Project Description:

Hensel Phelps Construction Co. seeks responses to a Request for Qualification (RFQ) from prospective Bidders interested in Bidding the Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) scopes of work for the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - " Plant Sciences Complex and Animal Health Center Project (PS&AH).

The PS&AH is a public works project with a combined Project value of $55,000,000. This project consists of two (2) separate structures on the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo campus.

The Cal Poly Plant Sciences Complex will consist of the following: civil scope for an approximately 60,000GSF donor developed green house, an approximately 20,000 GSF one story classroom and laboratory building, and site improvements.

The Animal Health Center will consist of an approximately 18,000 GSF one-story building which will accommodate instructional, clinical, and support spaces, and site improvements.

The delivery method for this project is Collaborative Design-Build. This is a two-phased project delivery process: Phase 1 -" Design and Preconstruction Services, Phase 2 - " Design-Build Construction Services. There will be a separate agreement for each phase.

The project is to be designed and constructed to meet LEED Gold or equivalent energy and sustainability achievements.

Pre-construction began in September 2023 and the PEMB trade partner will be onboarded by January 2024 . Construction (Phase 2) is scheduled to begin March 2024.

Requests for Proposals, and the basis of design, for the project will be available to pre-qualified bidders the week of December 18, 2023. Bids will be due in January 2024.

Applicants must fill out the pre-qualification forms completely. All pre-qualification forms must be submitted to Hensel Phelps Construction Co. (Attn: Enole Ede-Bumpus) no later than the date listed above.

100% Payment and Performance Bonds are required for amounts over $100,000. Any subcontractor that cannot provide Payment and Performance Bonds for this project can contact our office at 925-494-9700 to discuss available options. Workers’ Compensation and Waiver of Subrogation will be required by all Subcontractors.
