Project Description:
Hensel Phelps Construction Co. seeks responses to a Request for Qualification (RFQ) from prospective Bidders interested in Bidding the Design Assist Elevator, Structural Steel, Misc. Metals, & Stairs, Glazing & Aluminum Systems, and Framing & Drywall scopes of work for the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo â€"Student Success Center (SSC).
The SSC is a public works project and has a direct construction value of $34,000,000.
The Cal Poly Student Success Center will consist of the following: a 30,000 gsf new multistory building that will include a professional development center for career services, student diversity and belonging cultural centers, scholar program spaces, informal activity spaces for flexible uses, and University lecture rooms. Sitework will consist of site improvements such as relocations of existing utility infrastructure in addition to providing new utility infrastructure connections. Additionally, landscape/hardscape improvements will help integrate the new building into the context of adjacent spaces.
The delivery method for this project is Collaborative Design-Build. This is a two-phased project delivery process: Phase 1 â€" Design and Preconstruction Services, Phase 2 â€" Design-Build Construction Services. There will be a separate agreement for each phase.
The scope of work may include, but is not limited to, the following:
Preconstruction / Design Assist Services - As experts in their field, the Design Assist trade partner will review and provide comments to the team with respect to their scope for a complete, fully coordinated, and functional system.
Construction Services (Target Value Cost) - Trade partner selected will provide all necessary management, submittals, coordinated shop drawings, services, labor, materials, tools, supplies, equipment, testing, and/or any other act or thing required to fully perform and complete their scope of work described and/or inferred in the Contract Documents.
The project is to be designed and constructed to meet LEED Gold or equivalent energy and sustainability achievements. Pre-construction is scheduled to begin April 2025. Construction (Phase 2) is scheduled to begin August 2025.

Applicants must fill out the pre-qualification forms completely. All pre-qualification forms must be submitted to Hensel Phelps Construction Co. (Attn: Maria Martinez) no later than the date listed above.
100% Payment and Performance Bonds are required for amounts over $100,000. Any subcontractor that cannot provide Payment and Performance Bonds for this project can contact our office at 925-494-9700 to discuss available options. Workers’ Compensation and Waiver of Subrogation will be required by all Subcontractors.
