Project Description: Project comprises the supply, installation and testing of a new fiber optic cabling systems on the Knowledge Corridor Rail Line (approximately 50 miles of active railroad MP0.38/CPR1 to MP49.67/CPR50). The fiber optic system shall incorporate a 48-strand armored single mode backbone fiber optic cable and 48-strand lateral fiber optic cables for MassDOT's use. To support the 48-strand fiber cable, one 1.25" and one 2" innerduct shall be plowed along the right of way. At locations where plowing is not possible, such as at grade crossings, bridges and other locations with existing MassDOT or third part infrastructure, duct or conduit will be installed by hand digging, directional boring, or direct installation as applicable. Backbone fiber shall be installed within the 1.25" innerduct. Connections to fiber backbone, fiber laterals will be spliced into the backbone fiber and extended into existing MassDOT signal houses and cases and freestanding communication enclosures at stations. Handholes and pull boxes will be installed as indicated. MassDOT providing fiber cable reels, innerducts reels, & pull boxes. MassDOT will install fiber optic patch panels within the signal houses and cases. Contractor shall provide pigtails as required for the MassDOT installed fiber optic patch panels. Contractor shall splice lateral fibers and pigtails and install fiber optic connectors within the MassDOT installed panels. Contractor shall provide fiber optic panels and pigtails at three Amtrak and two ITS nodes.
