City of Greensboro releases 2020 MWBE Report

The City of Greensboro has released its annual Minority and Women's Business Enterprise (MWBE) Report for the year of 2020. The document is a review of not only top performing MWBEs in the Greensboro Relevant Marketplace but of the usage statistics for MWBEs in general in City contracting.

The report lists 15.56 percent of construction contracts being awarded to MWBEs in 2020, representing $14.9 million worth of contracts out of the total $95.7 million in spending. The figure further breaks down into 6.55 percent of total spending being spent with WBEs and 9.01 percent with MBEs. Prime utilization of MWBEs was 3.94 percent versus 11.61 percent subcontractor utilization. These figures represent a drop from 2019, in which 27.4 percent of total spending was awarded to MWBEs.

In spite of this drop, the City lists several advancements made, including adding a compliance officer to its MWBE Office, and designating forty MWBE Liaisons across existing employees in various City departments. Additionally, a new online system was implemented which enables City departments to more easily coordinate with the MWBE Office and request assistance in utilizing MWBE firms.
