City of Birmingham requesting feedback for disparity study
Published on 04/02/2021

The City of Birmingham has begun the process of conducting a new disparity study on the experience of minority- and woman-owned businesses (MWBEs) in City contracting. As part of that process, they are requesting that MWBEs and other local businesses to provide feedback on their experiences.

Businesses are encouraged to submit their feedback and comments via the website set up for the purpose at https://birminghamdisparitystudy.com/. The survey is set to close on Monday, 4/05/21. All local businesses, whether MWBE or not, are encouraged to provide feedback. The feedback will play a role in the determinations made by the disparity study, which can itself form the legal basis for any remedies proposed to correct disparities in MWBE utilization.

Businesses can provide information regarding "demographic and anecdotal information about companies, their capacity, and their impressions about doing business with the city of Birmingham," per the City's press release. The completed disparity study is expected to be delivered in August on 2021.

"This could really shape the economy of Birmingham and how we engage minority vendors," said Coreata Houser, deputy director of the city’s Department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity, in a press release.
