Wilmington to conduct disparity study
Published on 08/23/2021

Mayor Mike Purzycki and the Wilmington City Council have jointly agreed that the City of Wilmington will begin a disparity study. The study will examine City procurement to determine whether and to what extent there are disparities in contract awards made to minority- and woman-owned businesses (MWBEs) relative to their availability.

The study is expected to be delivered in the summer of 2022, and will look into conditions in the marketplace in the Wilmington area, as well as the experience of MWBEs attempting to work with the City, and City contract data. The various analyses conducted by the study will include Utilization, Availability, and Disparity, and anecdotal analyses, and it will include specific recommendations for policy changes.

"The disparity study is the first step to ensuring quality opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses to engage with the City of Wilmington," said At-large Wilmington Council Member Rysheema Dixon.
