St. Petersburg City Council approves new MWBE program
Published on 10/16/2023

The St. Petersburg City Council has approved a new program for minority- and woman-owned business enterprises (MWBEs). The Office of Supplier Diversity (OSD) within the City's Procurement and Supplier Management Department will manage the new program, which will last for an initial period of five years after which it may be renewed.

The new MWBE program is authorized to create participation requirements for City contracts, and will certify MWBEs directly and list them in a directory. The establishment of the program follows on a 2021 disparity study which found and documented disparities (across both prime and subcontracts) in the City's utilization of MWBEs from fiscal years 2014 through 2018 relative to their availability in the area.

"The City's new Minority and Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) Program will help businesses that are seeking more ways to prosper and thrive in a competitive business market," said St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch in a statement.
